5 Facts About Orange Cats – And Something Really Weird!

1. The Majority of Orange Cats are Males

80 percent are male, and 20 percent are female – no surprise, they are usually mischievous!

Surprisingly, the majority of orange tabby cats are male! It’s all because of their genetic makeup.

According to Spruce Pets, the gene O found on the X chromosome codes for orange (also known as Red in genetics) fur.

Because females have two X chromosomes, a female orange cat must inherit two orange genes (one from each parent).

On the other hand, a male tabby only requires one O gene, which he receives from his mother.

2. They Have Freckles

Many orange cats will develop tiny black freckles around their nose and mouth.

Ginger cats not only have cute pink noses, but they may also develop adorable little freckles!

These freckles typically appear around the gums, lips, or nose area and persist throughout the cat’s life.

These freckles are caused by lentigo, a benign genetic condition that increases the number of pigment-producing cells (epidermal melanocytes) around the lips, nose, and eyes, resulting in those tiny black freckles.

They’re like little sprinkles of happiness! These freckles are typically harmless, but a veterinarian should evaluate any changes in size or pigmentation.

3. They Are All Tabbies

Orange cats are all tabbies; they do not have a solid coat!

Without delving too deeply into genetics (it’s too complicated ), all orange cats will have tabby markings of some kind due to their genetic makeup.

The agouti gene is to blame for this. The agouti gene determines whether or not a cat has a tabby pattern.

However, when the red pigment gene is expressed, the non-agouti gene is rendered ineffective. So you can’t have a non-agouti gene in an orange cat, which means they’ll have some tabby marking, whether classic, mackerel, spotted, or ticked.

4. Four Coat Patterns

They have four different coat patterns: classic (swirled), Mackerel (striped), spotted, and ticked (agouti).

5. Lots of Orange Cats are TV stars!

Aside from the famous lasagna-loving Garfield, orange tabby cats have graced the big screen more than you may have realized!

There are live-action cats such as Goose (Captain Marvel), Orion (Men in Black), and Jones (Alien), and… wow, aren’t there a lot of orange tabbies in space?

Don’t forget about Orangey from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Not to mention Puss in Boots, who melted everyone’s hearts with his iconic big kitty eyes!

Something Weird

Most of you thought the headline was click-bait, didn’t you? It’s not. What you’re going to see now is really weird. I doubt you’ve seen anything like it.

The main character of this headline is the lady in team Catnerdz, the good-looking cat Andrea.

In the summer of 2020, she suddenly started to change color; she obviously wanted to be an orange tabby cat because of all the attention they get (she loves attention)

She might have thought her normal gray color was too dull a summer color.

Orange Andrea

As you can see in the photo, she almost managed to transform into an orange tabby cat.

However, the head, front legs, and tail would not change color; it made her look funny. But she got what she wanted – lots of attention.

When we then came to October, the orange color disappeared just as quickly as it had come in May.

She repeated the whole procedure in 2021.

Is it weird or what? Have any of you seen something similar please tell me about it?
